Diagnostic tips
- Tender sesamoid bones
- Pain intensifies on dorsiflexion.
Tests and Imaging
- X-rays of forefoot
- Bone scan, if the X-rays are normal
Immediate Treatment
- NSAIDs
- Choose appropriate shoes: low-heel and soft-sole
- R.I.C.E.R.
Possible Referral
- Podiatry for footwear advice, padding and splinting, possible orthoses.
- Sesamoidectomy after failiure of conservative treatment
